It’s official: 2019 is the year of the Spice Girls-aissance.
First Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby (Posh who?) announced their comeback tour. Then we found out you can legitimately stay the night in the ultimate vehicle of girl power: The Spice Bus. For the uninitiated (what were you doing for all of 1997?) the Spice Bus is the red double-decker that all five of the Spice Girls live on as they zip around London with Meat Loaf as their driver. Of course.
Spice Girls super fan Suzanne Godley has listed the renovated Spice Bus on Airbnb for the nights the Girls are playing Wembley. Sadly but not surprisingly, it sold out almost as quickly as the tour tickets themselves. But there’s a chance that if you tell Suzanne what you want, what you really, really want is to stay the night in the Spice Bus, she might extend the dates.
We’ll have to be content with being Wannabes for now, as we peek at the Union Jack-tastic interiors…
‘Too much of something is bad enough, But something’s coming over me to make me wonder, Too much of nothing is just as tough…’
This might as well be the maximalist national anthem – and speaking of patriotism, you can’t fault the Spice Bus’ commitment to the Union Jack. Lesser decorators might have said one was enough, but as the Spice Girls sang, too much is never enough.
Where oh where can we get our hands on the neon 'Girl Power’ sign?
Also, congrats to the Spice Bus for nailing nostalgic charm AND millennial plants on pink. The nineties and tens are blended so perfectly, you might say 2 have become 1…
Zig-a-zig-zebra, what a carpet!
But ignoring the animal print and mirrorballs (a sentence we never thought we’d say), the bedroom is actually surprisingly minimalist. Well done to Suzanne for making the top deck of a bus look like a spacious, calming place to live.
Yep, that’s a basket of spare scrunchies. Which is going to make adhering to the Spice Bus rules a lot easier: “No pets, no smoking, 90s dress code, double denim permitted, Girl Power essential and selfies in the driver's seat encouraged."
There you have it: Union Jacks. Pink walls. Mirror balls. Zebra carpets. And most importantly of all: girl power. Spice Bus, all we can say is Stop Right Now and let us climb aboard. We need to Spice Up our Lives.
