When we started getting served social media adverts for The Wing, we were a little worried that we were being indoctrinated into a cult. And in a way, we were – but a cult so ambitious, feminist and downright stylish that we’re A-OK with it. Welcome to The Wing.
What is it?
The Wing is a female only workspace – but much more than this, it empowers women to achieve in their careers and partners with non-profits to support the advancement of marginalised women and girls. It’s even been called a ‘millennial-meets-suffragette’ space.
Who’s involved?
The founders, Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan, wanted to create a powerhouse where conversations between women (including transgender women and non-binary people) can become catalysts and networks are built and strengthened.
Members include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Tina Fey, Jennifer Lopez, Hillary Clinton and Christiane Amanpour. So, pretty casual.
Where is it?
The Wing is already well-established in The USA with spaces in New York, Washington, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago and LA, and three more planned for 2020. But most excitingly for us The Wing has flown (geddit?) across the pond and a London branch is opening this summer. The exact location of the five-storey townhouse is being kept under wraps, but we know it’ll be on the border of Soho and Fitzrovia (of course).
What will I be doing?
Well, working. The Wing is chiefly intended as a working and networking space, with regular talks and workshops to boost members’ careers. When you’re not working there’s a beauty parlour, roof terrace, tea room and restaurant supported by Skye Gyngell.
Why are we not talking about the interiors?
Why aren’t we?? They’re one of the main talking points – pink, pink and more millennial pink. Following in the blushing footsteps of the US spaces, the London Wing is just as rosy. We’re particularly excited about the maximalist beauty parlour, colour-coded bookshelves and turf chequerboard rooftop.
